Although he initially comes off as a "fair-weather friend" in the episode "A Little Extra Security", when, after carousing about the town with buddy Grady, and then when asked by him for a loan of $233, the amount of the extra check that he received from Social Security due to a computer glitch, when he says "I need that money...If I can't make money, who's gonna care for me! Who's gonna look after me?", and when after Grady says "I will!" answering "You're gonna be in jail, thief!", Otis still comes through as a loyal friend when, after he leaves the Sanford home, returns with the amount Grady needed just in case Mr. Hastings, from the Social Security office asked about the money, which he never does, instead, in another error, Hastings (who Grady kept referring to as "Haystacks") returned to present Grady with still another check!
