The Dowry was the seventeenth episode of Sanford and Son. Also the third episode of the series' second season, it premiered September 29, 1972.
Plot[]
Fred's cousin Grady (Albert Reed, Jr.) pays a visit, accompanied by his new wife Margaret (Marguerite Ray) and overweight stepdaughter Betty Jean (Gladys Perry). Cousin Grady's stepdaughter Betty Jean stands to receive a $10,000 dowry after her wedding day from her deceased father, which sets Fred (upon Grady's prodding) to playing matchmaker with uninterested Lamont.
Note: Marguerite Ray, who would later resurface as Evelyn Lewis, Fred's new girlfriend/fiancée on the spinoff series Sanford, makes the first of two guest appearances on Sanford and Son.
