Tooth or Consequences was the nineteenth episode of Sanford and Son. Also the fifth episode of the series' second season, it premiered October 13, 1972.
Plot[]
Rather than shell out good money at the dentist's office, Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx) tries hypnosis and then a homespun remedy, an "asiphicity" bag that stinks up the living room, to cure a toothache. When this inevitably fails, insistent Lamont (Demond Wilson) orders Fred to pay a visit to a free dental clinic. But even here, Fred refuses to plant himself in the chair unless he is taken care of by a white dentist; he even goes as far as saying "A brother (black man) is fine for a drinking buddy, but I want a white dentist for my tooth! White dentist, please!" The black dentist he rejects then sends in a white dentist (Hal England), who is actually an inexperienced young intern. Turns out that the dentist Fred refuses, Dr. Rogers, who's the head of oral surgery at the clinic (Sid McCoy), is the one who he wanted to see anyway!
